Mappilai samba is a traditional rice variety from the Indian subcontinent, much known for its nutritional value and medicinal properties.

Maplai samba is grown widely in Tamil Nadu especially in the district of Thiruvannamalai. It is rich in fiber and increases haemoglobin content in the body. It is also rich in vitamin B1 which helps in healing stomach and mouth ulcers. It improves brain strength and builds up the overall immunity and stamina of the body. Ingredients Required To Make Coconut Maplai Samba Rice Recipe

 1 cup Maplai Samba Rice
 ½ cup Coconut (fresh & grated)
 ¼ cup Jaggery
 ½ tsp Cardamom Powder

How To Make Coconut Maplai Samba Recipe

Wash and clean the mappillai sambha rice and soak overnight.

Rinse and pour in three cups of fresh water and pressure cook for five to six whistles.

After it cools down, take it out and drain the excess water if there is any.

Transfer it to a broad vessel and let it cool.

Add the measured quantity of jaggery and stir well.

Tip in the grated coconut with a good stir.

At last, sprinkle a few pinches of cardamom powder and mix well.

Tips To Follow To Make Maplai Samba Rice :

• Since mappilai sambha rice is quite hard, it is always better to soak it at least for five to six hours.

• If you cook the rice in a wok, it takes approximately about 30-40 minutes to get cooked up in high flame.

• In both the ways, it tastes awesome and therefore you can cook either way.

• If you want, you can add a pinch of salt when it boils.

• Similarly, you can add a little more jaggery if you need it. Normally, it is delicious when it is moderately sweet.

• If you take it continuously for a fortnight, you can see a boost in your energy flow and it is the best suited authentic Indian millet for growing children.

• It is available in all Indian organic stores and it is long in shape with dark brown color and has a thick texture.
