Sukku Malli Coffee is an age old recipe which originated from the Indian subcontinent. To be specific, it is an authentic recipe of Tamil Nadu, India.

It is a kind of herbal coffee from the Indian kitchen. Sukku malli coffee is a Tamil name, and it is named after the ingredients with which it is prepared of.

Sukku Malli Coffee Main Ingredients : 

There are six main ingredients which add taste and value to this drink and those items are dry ginger (sukku), coriander seeds (malli vidhai), cumin, pepper, cloves and cardamom. The mixture of these spices into a right proportion and the decoction made out of this mixture forms this excellent medicinal drink.

It is a multipurpose remedy drink available ready in hand for many problems. It occupies an important place in any South Indian household. It is the much preferred drink for common cold, fever, sore throat and digestion issues. It has anti-inflammatory properties too. It also removes toxins from the body. It helps the body to absorb minerals from the intestines.

Ingredients Required To Make Sukku Malli Coffee 

 1 Inch Dry Ginger (Sukku)
 1 tsp Coriander Seeds (Malli)
 1 tsp Pepper Corns
 1 tsp Jeera or Cumin Seeds
 2 Cloves
 2 Cardamoms
 5 ½ tsp Palm Jaggery

How To Make Sukku Malli Coffee

Preliminary Steps
1

To make sukku malli coffee, place a pan in the stove and dry roast the measured quantities of dry ginger, coriander seeds, pepper, jeera and cloves for 2-3 minutes in medium flame.

Once you get a nice aroma out of it, you simmer the flame and keep stirring for a minu

Now switch off the stove and transfer it to a plate and let it cool.

Put all the roasted ingredients in the mixer jar and add two cardamom to it and blend it to a coarse powder. Now the sukku malli powder is ready.

Transfer it to an air tight container.

Heat a vessel in medium flame and pour two cups of water in it.

Once the water boils, add two tea spoons of sukku malli powder from the air tight jar and mix it well.

Adjust the flame to high mode and let it boil for a few minutes.

When the boiling liquid reduces to half the quantity just simmer the stove.

Add 1 ½ teaspoons of palm jaggery and stir well and switch off the stove.

Use a tea filter and strain it in a cup and serve it hot.

Things To Remember While Making Sukku Malli Coffee 

  • In case, if you do not get sukku, you can buy dry ginger powder, which is readily available in all super markets.
  • It can be taken twice or thrice a day to get relief from cough, cold and flu.

  • Similarly, coriander powder can be substituted for coriander seeds in case if you do not have it at home.
