Vazhaipoo vadai recipe is one of the delicacies of south India, especially Tamil Nadu. Vazhaipoo Vadai is not only delicious to eat, but also very good for health.

Ingredients Required To Make Vazhaipoo Vadai 

 1 cup Chana Dal
 2 cups Chopped Vazhaipoo (banana flower)
 5 Nos Chili
 1 tsp Fennel
 10 Cloves Garlic
 2 Strands Curry Leaves
 1 cup Chopped Onions
 1 tsp Black Pepper
 1 tsp Jeera
 1 tsp Grated Ginger
 1 Handful Chopped Coriander Leaves
 Salt and Water as Required

Initial preparation to make vazhaipoo vadai

Wash and soak the chana dal and leave for 2-3 hours

Grind the soaked chana into a thick coarse paste along with red chillies, black pepper, fennel, garlic and salt.

Now add the grated ginger, chopped onion, curry leaves
and chopped coriander leaves and mix together.

Finally grind the vazhaipoo along with this mixture and keep it aside for a few minutes.

Now the mixture is ready to do patties or vadas. Make small balls according to your preferred size and prepare small patties out of it and keep it in a plate.

Heat required quantity of cooking oil in a frying pan and once the oil is heated, lower the flame and put the patties one by one.

Then slowly bring the flame to medium and cook it till it becomes golden brown. Turn the other side and cook the same way. Similarly cook all the patties and place it in a plate over a tissue to absorb the excess oil.

Now serve the hot and crispy vadas with onion chutney, coconut chutney or green chutney anything of your choice. Kids just love it when you serve it with tomato sauce.

Things To Remember for Vazhaipoo Vadai Recipe : 

Here are some tips as how to clean a banana flower. Add 2-3 spoons of curd into a bowl of water and keep it aside.under each petal you will get florets which has to be cleaned  one by one. In each floret you just have to remove the tepal, that is the transparent one inch cover like substance.next you should remove the long thread like structure which has a bulge on its top.once you discard these two from all the florets you can cut it into fine pieces and soak it in the curd water bowl.let it remain in that bowl till you prepare the other ingredients to grind ,as it will become dark if you expose it out.
